2013 You’ve Been A Corker!

2013 has been an absolute blast, super hectic at times but all totally worth it!  I started the year in Chamonix for Helen & Nobby’s stunning wedding and ended it at the same venue for Maddie & Justin’s gorgeous day just the other week!  I also shot 2 weddings in Ibiza, one in Alderney, 2 in Yorkshire, 1 in Bath, 1 in Bristol, 3 in London, 1 in the Cotswolds, 1 in Kent, 1 in Cambridge, 4 in Surrey and the rest were local to me around Chichester.  All in all I’ve seen some beautiful things, met some wonderful suppliers (Kate Avery Flowers, Mari Hudson Catering, Clare Williams Cakes, Lucy from ID Salon, Vikki from Eat Ibiza to name a few), shot at some stunning venues (Sudely Castle, Elizir (Ibiza), Le Cabane (Chamonix), Claridge’s Hotel, Bath Assemby Rooms, Rivervale Barn, Southend Barns) plus some insane private houses and marquees with amazing backdrops as well as meeting a whole bunch of wonderful brides and grooms.  I shot a total of 35 weddings, which, going forward, I believe to be too many.  I want to give 100% to every wedding I shoot and not let myself get burnt out so one of my big decisions for 2014 is to only take on an absolute max of 25 weddings.  This means I need to stay true to my pricing in order for my business to survive but I honestly think all my clients will appreciate having a photographer who’s 100% inspired, full of energy and with plenty of time for Skype conversations and advice.

I’m thrilled to say I’ve been featured on Style Me Pretty, Rock My Wedding, B.Loved, Boho Weddings, French Wedding Style and in You & Your Wedding and Your Wedding magazine – yay!  I love seeing my work featured and feel extremely grateful to all these fantastic blog and magazines who do such an incredible job supporting and promoting suppliers.

2013 also saw the very exciting launch of Millie & Belle with the fantastic Camilla Arnhold.  Camilla and I absolutely love working together and are really excited about what the future holds for our new venture… Watch this space!

I also bought myself a Contax 645 medium format camera which has totally re-inspired me.  I love film and want to shoot more and more with it.  2014 may even see the addition of a Film & Digital Package for HCP so please get in contact if this might interest you.  I’m also hoping to continue to learn and develop my photography skills through lots of personal projects on film, whether it be a styled shoot, family shoot or engagement shoot, I’m just excited by the new medium and the added inspiration it gives me.  Myself and the awesome hubby are also planning on starting a new business together to compliment two things we both love…  Without giving it away we’re both really excited and look forward to trying to work together doing something we’re passionate about.  We’ll let you know as soon as we can…

On a personal note myself and the hubby have bought a house, sweated over renovations, holidayed in Tignes, Meribel, Chamonix and Ibiza, spent 7 weeks in Mallorca for Dom’s work and generally enjoyed our 2nd year of married life!

Wishing everyone a successful, happy and fun 2014!  Big love xxx

Justin & Camilla’s Styled E-Shoot on Film : New Forest, Hampshire

Last month I joined forces with Hayley Savage Photography to photograph my beautiful partner in crime Millie, of Millie & Belle Photography, with her hubby to be Justin.  Just for fun we decided to make it a styled shoot with yummy cakes and bouquets made by the incredible Little Lillies.  You can see all my digital images on the Millie & Belle blog here and here and some of Hayley’s gorgeous images here but below are a selection of my Film images taken with my gorgeous Contax 645 using Fuji Pro 400H and developed and scanned by the incredible UK Film Lab.  Hayley and I can’t wait for this wedding next year as both Camilla & Justin are super natural in front of the camer, not to mention majorly loved-up 🙂

Adventures in Film and why Film Rocks my World ♥♥♥

Recently I made the decision to purchase a Contax 645 rather than upgrading to a 5D Mark III.  It was one or the other and film won!  As a digital wedding photographer this was quite a big decision as I know the Mark III would be fantastic and, to be honest, would probably have been a more sensible choice!  However, my love of photography started with film when I was 17 when I did a City & Guilds course and so borrowed all of my Grandad’s darkroom equipment to scan and develop my own prints – my Grandad was also a professional photographer and had his own photographic shop!  I loved the creativity film gave me.  I loved staying up all night seeing images develop in front of my eyes.  That feeling of anticipation, not knowing if the image would turn out as you imagined and the elation if it did!  I’ve also always be drawn to film photographers, preferring the gorgeous pastel tones and the organic beauty of  their images. My inspiration has always come from incredible photographers such as Jose Villa, Elizabeth Messina, Feather & Stone, Taylor Lord and UK based Polly Alexandre, whose work is truly beautiful and magical.

This all being said, when a Contax 645 became available I knew I had to follow my heart and go for it.  In a fast digital age, film allows you to slow down, and I love this.  Film forces you to really gen up on your stuff and think about each and every photo as you don’t get immediate results and you can’t simply press delete.  I’ve now shot my first 4 rolls of film (Fuji Pro 400H) and I have really enjoyed the thought process and love that goes into each and every click.  My husband may get annoyed that a single frame can take up to 20 minutes whilst I faff around with various compositions but he just might have to live with it as shooting film has enabled me to rediscover my passion by following a slightly different photographic path.  I don’t know if I’ll ever have the confidence to shoot an entire wedding in film, the thought honestly fills me with dread but I would love to carry on experimenting, discovering and learning.  Film forces me to do this, so much more than digital and has given me even more respect for film photographers, especially my Grandad, than I ever had previously.  A huge thank you to Christian and Erica Ward (my fantastic wedding photographers) for creating the amazing UK Film Lab and for all their help and guidance in the daunting world of film.  I’m so excited about what the future holds now I’ve rediscovered film, who knows where my photographic journey will lead as a result…

Here’s a couple of images from my first roll, taken in Ibiza with my gorgeous friend Lauren and all developed and scanned by UK FILM Lab.  Film, you rock! x

Lisa’s Yummily Scrumptious Dinner Party in the Alps xxx

Back in March I had the absolute pleasure of photographing a dinner party in Chamonix hosted by the gorgeous Lisa Murgatroyd.  As the snow fell outside Lisa and her 9 lovely guests enjoyed a scrummy 3 course meal accompanied by homemade tomato and onion foccaccia and most importantly, a delicious raspberry mojito – to die for!  Lisa has a real passion for food, using fresh, bold flavours and colours to create mouthwatering dishes, as you can see below!  She is also such a lovely, open person with a beautiful smile and spirit.  I particularly love the outdoor shots of Lisa in the snow, the gorgeous chalet setting and all the vibrant colours set against the rustic backdrop.  A huge thank you to Lisa for asking me to document such a fun (and delicious) day, I loved it and will fly back anytime for more of these shoots!! xxx

Magical Mallorca xxx

It’s no secret I love the balearic islands!  I think everyone should put aside any misconceptions about the islands and just GO (just avoid San Antonio and Magaluf)!

Here’s a few snaps from a cheeky 4 days in Mallorca with the hubby…  We stayed in Santa Ponsa as it was close to the yacht Dom works on but would seriously advise staying clear of this spot unless you love your wifebeater tan lines, sports bars and all day fry ups at every cafe!  If, like us, you’d prefer something a bit more chilled out and authentic our favourite spots have been Port Andratx, Palma, Valdemossa and all of the north coast and inland amongst the lemon groves.  If you’re looking for the most amazing romantic getaway I would wholeheartedly recommend Ca N’ai – expensive but well worth it for a special occasion!

Mallorca and Ibiza both have the most incredible light so whenever we’re there I frequently annoy Dom by stopping the car to get a picture of something totally random (as you can see by many of these pictures)!

Anyway, enjoy the sunshine and light, hopefully it’ll take your minds off the dreary, grey summer we’re having…. xxx
